Irini Diomidou

Irini Diomidou

Since the age of 12, she has been practicing the craft and she learned from her family and she is now one of the last three remaining artisans keeping this tradition alive.

Originating from the village of Fyti, this weaving art represents a rich heritage dating back to the medieval period of Cyprus. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, Fythkiotika textiles are handwoven on traditional looms and are known for their vivid geometric patterns, each telling a story of everyday life. Once created by young women as part of their dowries, these beautiful fabrics are now reimagined into modern items such as scarves, handbags, and home décor pieces, ensuring the continuation of this centuries-old craft.
