Aytül Numan is originally from Serdarlı, where she was born and raised. In 1982, she moved to Yedidalga after getting married. After completing primary school, she was unable to continue her education and became a homemaker following her marriage, caring for her children. During those years, she worked from home sewing awnings, which she sold in Girne.
Later, her husband Ergün Numan, who had begun working as a fishing-net maker, taught her this craft. At first, she made nets only for her husband. Over time, she began making fishing nets for local fishermen to earn pocket money for her children and herself. She describes this work as reliable, explaining that there are many fishermen as customers and that there is a constant demand for nets.
Throughout her life, she supported her household both by raising calves in her garden and by making fishing nets. She has practised this craft for approximately 35–40 years. Today, she continues net making more as a pleasure and to save money for holidays, rather than out of necessity.
